The Union Minister aims to push the passenger capacity of trains to 1000 crore in the next five years. The Indian Railways contemplated adding an additional 3000 new trains to its network in the upcoming five years to accommodate continuously rising demand for seats and tickets because of population growth. Ashwini Vaishnaw added, “At present, the railways are carrying about 800 crore passengers annually. We have to increase the capacity to 1,000 crore in four to five years as the population is growing. The official report claimed that there are 69000 new coaches available with the Indian Railways. Speaking of Indian Railways’ manufacturing subsidiary, the railways is manufacturing around 5000 new coaches per year. Furthermore, the report added the railways would add 200 to 250 new trains every year besides the 400-500 Vande Bharat trains that are going to be included in the future. Moreover, the Railway Minister asserted that the Indian Railways is striving to speed up its trains and increase trains’ speed along with the expansion of the rail network. The Union Minister added, “It is important to minimize the time taken to accelerate and decelerate a long route train because besides scheduled stoppages, it has to decrease its speed at several cautions and curves along the route,” He further emphasized, “If we take the Delhi-Kolkata route from Rajdhani Express, and if we improve the acceleration and deceleration time at curves, stations and cautions, we will save two hours and 20 minutes from the current total travel time.
