There are still a lot of white places, even though network coverage is expanding globally every day. However, this may all change with Android 14, the newest version of Google's mobile operating system.
There has been speculation that the iPhone 14 and Android 14 may be able to handle satellite connectivity. Elon Musk recently made waves by stating in August 2022 that Starlink satellites will enable devices connected to T- Mobile to have a network.
Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google‘s VP of platforms and ecosystems, discussed the issue on Twitter. They were speculating on the experience that people might have with satellite-connected smartphones. In its initial 2008 release, the T-Mobile G1 suffered connectivity issues via 3G and WiFi. The use of satellite links is currently being prioritized.
Android 14 Will Offer Support For Satellite Networks
After T-service Mobile goes live, it will be compatible with Android or iOS smartphones. However, with OS-level support in Android 14, users should have a much better time in critical situations or areas with no other signal.
Smartphone users may finally relax as the satellite network covers previously unreachable areas. Since they must have access to a network everywhere, they go on this planet. It ensures that communication can be made anytime, including calls and messages.
Google is not entirely new to satellites and phones interacting with one another. After testing with balloons that might offer internet connection to locations inaccessible or damaged by natural disasters, Google invested in SpaceX in 2015 to supplement its Starlink satellite activities.
“Project Loon” included the idea in question. It means it has a chance of being one of Google's first partners with the release of Android 14 whenever that happens next year. In addition, the first beta version will be released early in 2023.
