Amazon is Now Selling the God of War TV Series: Amazon Prime Video has ordered a series of live-action versions of the “God of War” video game franchise, based on the popular PlayStation video games, with “Wheel of Time” creator and executive producer Rafe Judkins scheduled to serve as showrunner.
Adapted from the 2018 video game that broke sales records, the programme centres on Kratos, the God of War, who, after fleeing his bloody past in ancient Greece, lays down his weapons in the Norse realm of Midgard.
After the death of his wife, Kratos undertakes a perilous journey with his estranged son Atreus to fulfil her dying wish: to scatter her ashes from the tallest peak.
At first, Kratos doesn't realise that he's embarking on an epic mission that will put his relationship with his son to the test as well as require him to face new gods and monsters in a struggle to determine the fate of the planet.
The series based on the Santa Monica Studio game will be showrun and executive produced by Judkins, with “Iron Man” and “Children of Men” writers Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby also serving in those capacities.

Aside from Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of Playstation Productions, Yumi Yang of Santa Monica Studio, Roy Lee of Vertigo, and Cory Barlog, studio creative director, will serve as executive producers. The Santa Monica Studio's Jeff Ketcham is a co-executive producer.
The series is a joint effort by PlayStation Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon Studios. We believe the broad and immersive worlds of ‘God of War,' as well as the great storytelling, will capture our global customers, said Vernon Sanders, head of global television at Amazon Studios.

The “God of War” TV series is the latest show to be based on a video game, joining the likes of Amazon's “Fallout” adaptation from “Westworld” creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, HBO's “The Last of Us” (based on another PlayStation property), Paramount+'s “Halo,” the Anthony Mackie-led “Twisted Metal” at Peacock, and more.
