Activision sent DMCA takedowns against a number of Call of Duty-themed maps made in Fortnite Creative 2.0, which caused them to be taken down. Fortnite Creative 2.0 is the most recent version, and it lets fans show off their creativity by making their own maps and modes.
Fortnite Creative is a sandbox metagame where players can build their own maps in an Unreal Engine editor and share them online using codes. It came out in 2018 and has recently been updated to Fortnite Creative 2.0, which is also called Unreal Editor for Fortnite.
Fans were quick to make some of the best Fortnite Creative 2.0 maps, like the scary map Scary Doll by user Kool Light69 and the business-management map GemStone Tycoon by Infinity.Studios. Atlas Creative even made a copy of the original Chapter 1 Fortnite Battle Royale map.
Do you know that the U.S. Justice Department and Activision Blizzard have reached an agreement to end the lawsuit that the department filed against Activision Blizzard on Monday over salary limits in professional esports leagues:
Several user-made maps that became popular quickly were remakes of fan-favorite Call of Duty maps, but these maps have been taken down because Activision sent DMCA takedowns. Jake Lucky, an online creator, told people about these takedowns on Twitter by posting a clip of a user named Mist Jawa playing on one of these maps –
Activision has begun taking down Fortnite Creative 2.0 maps for Copyright Infringement. Meaning Call of Duty inspired maps like FPS Rust, Zombies, and more will no longer be playable as creators are contacted to remove them :/ pic.twitter.com/VUENqq3Fs2

There were copies of the Call of Duty maps Rust and Shipment among the maps shown. Epic has warned players before about the rules for intellectual property in Fortnite Creative 2.0, which can lead to bad things for Fortnite creators.
Mist Jawa posted a message on Twitter saying that they would no longer make copies of maps that were protected by intellectual property laws and that all of their old maps had been deleted –
I will no longer be recreating any copyright maps
Modern Fortfare along with some zombie maps
have been deleted and can no longer be played
I still plan on creating unique experainces for shooter
& Zombie fansi have also removed all tweets and YT Videos related to the topic. pic.twitter.com/TGVoHnulSu

Also, they took down all of their Tweets and YouTube videos that were about those maps. Some fans have pointed out that fan-made levels in the level editor for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 have also recreated places from other works of fiction, like the custom Zombies map for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which is a copy of Dunder Mifflin from The Office.
Level editors like Fortnite Creative 2.0, Halo’s Forge mode, and Far Cry 5’s level editor have been very helpful in letting players make their own experiences and keeping the communities for these games alive. Not only that, but it also lets players bring in maps that wouldn’t be available otherwise.
For example, the original Fortnite Chapter 1 map was redone in Fortnite Creative 2.0. Some of these creations are in bad legal gray areas that can lead to takedowns, but their popularity shows how important it is to support them.
Fortnite Creative 2.0 has only been out for a few weeks, so the game’s active and creative community is sure to make more. Fortnite is now available for mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
