40 Workers Stuck In Collapsed Under-Construction Tunnel In Uttarakhand, Rescue Operation Under Process

In a bid to save the lives of the 40 tunnel workers, the rescue operation has been launched to evacuate 40 workers including 8 from Uttar Pradesh. Sources have confirmed that the tunnel collapsed after 200 meters of the entrance of the tunnel. The reports have confirmed that among the total 40 trapped laborers under the debris of a collapsed under-construction tunnel, 8 are from Uttar Pradesh. It has been two days since the laborers were trapped under the debris. The authorities have identified the names of workers from UP as Rammilan, Satyadev, Ankit, Santosh, Ram Sunkdar from Shravasti, Jaiprakash, Akhilesh Kumar from Mirzapur, and Manjit from Lakhimpur. The list of the entangled workers issued by the emergency operation center includes 8 from Uttar Pradesh, 15 from Jharkhand, 5 from Odisha, 4 from Bihar, 2 each from Uttarakhand and Assam, 3 from West Bengal, and 1 from Himachal Pradesh.

Yesterday, a new landslide hampered efforts to insert steel pipes through the rubble of the collapsed tunnel to pull out the 40 trapped laborers under the debris for the past two days. Abhishek Ruhela who is Uttarkashi District Magistrate had earlier said that dilling to insert the pipes to create a passage for the laborers started with the help of an ‘auger machine’. The next update came from the incident scene that the rescue work was affected when the landslide caused fresh rubble to fall from above causing a stampede and injuring two laborers. Reportedly, eight 900-millimeter diameter pipes of six meters each and five pipes of the same length of 800-millimeter diameter are there said the State Emergency Operation Centre.
